japan trip - day zero

It has now been four months since I left on my trip to Japan. It was an amazing experience, full of all sorts of surprises that we would have never expected. This post details the prelude to the big trip. Some decided to stay at home and play the new WoW expansion, or at the very least recover from the big 21st party the previous night but a small group of intrepid adventurers decided to forget about sleep and instead head straight to Sydney the morning after.

I was one of those senseless individuals who decided to travel north into the only Australian city that foreigners could name. It was a very early start. Here’s a photo of me trying hard to not look tired.

For anyone who hasn’t had to use it, Avalon Airport is quite a dump. It’s far from everything (I don’t count the western suburbs) and there are no facilities there. But Jetstar flights are very cheap and so are train tickets from the nearby train station. However it does take longer to travel from Avalon to Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs than it does to get from Avalon to Sydney.

Eventually we arrived in Sin City where we waited to check in at the Swissotel. Given that it was about 11am, our room wasn’t ready yet. Waited in the fancy foyer for a while until the room became available. Why are hotel corridors always so tacky?

Our view mainly consisted of the base of the Sydney Tower.

Sydney sure uses a lot of sandstone or sandstone-coloured concrete.

After a short bit of recovery, we explored Sydney a bit. Everyone was still tired from the previous night so not much was achieved. It also explains the noticeable shortage of photographs as you have probably noticed by now.

Sydney monorail
George and Market Streets

Monorails are an epic fail when it comes to actually transporting people, but I guess they sounded like a cool idea back in the 1980s. We ended up walking around the immediate vicinity of the hotel such as the Queen Victoria Building which is quite like the Melbourne Central shopping centre.

Nothing of note really happened in these few hours. I really need to go back up to Sydney for a bit longer next time and with a local to show me around. We did find a pretty nice steakhouse though, which was to be the last big tasty steak for quite some time.

On the way, we got to make a token crossing of the coathanger on the way there and passed through Circular Quay which has one of the most picturesque railway stations in an urban environment in Australia.

Oh yeah, later that night, we visited a convenience store where a fight was about to break out because some drunk muzza was complaining about a mobile phone recharge card that didn’t work.

I am now simul-blogging on Pics or it didn’t happen! (formerly LimitedIntelligence) and Cameland!

As some of you may know from Vincent’s previous post, John likes to some extra curricular activities in his spare time. After shooting for his new album, he has gone into the modelling industry. Most recently you may have noticed some things like these around town.

Day Nine – Friday, Hitting the Clubs, Kangaroo Island
Waking up to Andy and Bo returning from work at around 12pm I find Dom getting ready for the trip to Kanga. It’s also hard trying to sleep when you have little kids punching you in the face telling you to play with them. After a while the whole family is here ready to go off on there “wild” adventure.

They soon leave and now its just me, Bo and Sam (Bo’s little sister). What else is there to do but to hit the clubs. So we call out Ora (the chick) and we are off to the clubs. We go to miami night at the HYATT (Latino and RNB). You guys probably think I get lucky or some shit yeah? Well guess what? I wasn’t allowed in. That freakin bouncer refused entry on me because I was not classy enough for him. I had to wear a collar shirt and no laced shoes, so pretty much what Jaso wears.

I had to be rushed back home and get changed just so I can get in. And so I am finally allowed in and I find out the clubs over here in Adelaide ain’t nothing like what I am used to in Melbourne. I see people salsa’ing, and I see others trying to dance, it was like “Am I in the right place?” It was a mixed club so there were different types of people but what really sucked was that I was the only Asian guy and also the youngest looking guy there. There were so many times when I fought I was gonna get my ass whooped. After the whole night spent dancing and shit all we leave the clubs. I soon find out the one of Bo’s ex’s did want to whoop my ass. WTH…

While somewhere over in Kanga the boys were having there fun I guess. Especially trying to spy on that one jap chick, HAHAHHHAHAH!!! It’s funny because she was taken and they couldn’t do jack all.

Day Ten – Saturday, Bike riding, Sea Lions, Girls night in
It’s Saturday and I woke up kinda bored so I went into the back and grabbed one of the bikes that were lying around and decided to go for a ride around the neighborhood. I found a “small” park somewhere behind Bo’s house and decided I’ll just do a lap of this park then go back home. I’m riding for like 10 mins and I haven’t even started going around yet, I’ve just been riding straight. I soon realize that this is not a small park at all but some huge land that’s been leading me nowhere. As soon as I knew that I turn straight back around and headed home.

Somewhere over on Kangaroo Island the boys are enjoying the rocky scenery and watching the seals and sea lions lying on the beach. They also enjoy there seafood BBQ and swimming pool at the resort they are staying in. I don’t really know much but that is the main gist of things over there.

Back here Ora (the chick) wants to come over because she’s bored at home and all, so when she comes over its just Bo, Sam and Me. We decide to watch a movie at home but first we needed go out and get us some munchies. We end up getting KFC and watching Tristan + Isolde, which I must say is a pretty good movie.

Day Seven – Wednesday, Working on The Farm, going to The Bay
It is my first farm job ever and I am working with Bo. Only one of the trio can work at a time and since I don’t get centrelink, I am forced to do it. Let me tell you people who are virgins to farm work, do not do it. My back is crooked and my fingers feel like it will split open and scream. Working on the grape farms sucks big balls. A couple of hours into the day and I get called up by the boys to ask me if I wanted to go to Kangaroo Island. WTF? Are you serious? Why would I wanna waste my money going to a shitter version of Adelaide? I come home after the grueling 10 hours of farm work to find out that those bastards are actually going to go Kanga Island without me.

We find out that they are hanging out at the bay with Ora’s family and the Sydney visitors who somehow convinced Andy and Dom to go to Kanga Island with them. So Bo and I decide to hit the beach after a long days work. We call up one of Bo’s friends to come along and she also happens to have exactly the same name as Ora.

The Bay is a pretty nice beach compared to Melbourne’s shit whole beaches. The Bay can be compared to St Kilda beach if you want to know what its like but apparently The Bay is the worst beach in Adelaide so yeah.

After taking a quick dip in the water we head home.

Day Eight – Thursday, The Hollywood Sign, Black Cat *DRAG*
I am sorry but I seriously can not remember what happened during this day. The only thing I remember was that Andy and Bo had work the next day and that Dom and I couldn’t stay up because we were too loud so we decided to go out night exploring. The first thing on our minds as we were outside was to climb that Hollywood sign in front of Bo’s house. We found a hole on one of the side of the fences and we started climbing the sign. It wasn’t so bad until like halfway up there was a problem with getting to the first platform. We found away around that shortly after though and we were up on the Hollywood sign. We had our manly conversation up there for like 3-4 hours until we decided to go home.

Getting down was pretty poofy and all but we managed to make it down safe. When we got back home we found that we have been locked out. During our time up in the Hollywood sign someone had come home and locked us out. We couldn’t wake Andy and Bo up because they had work and they would get angry at us, so we decided to wait until they woke up for work which was like at 4.30 and we had to wait another hour and a half.

After 5 mins of waiting we just left back for the plaza just to fuck around in the car park. While exploring the perimeter of the plaza we were confronted by a mysterious black cat, which soon became our temporary friend. We sat around patting the cat and playing around and decided to go find some food for the cat. So we scavenged some food out of bins and all to feed this cat that wouldn’t even eat the food we found it so we just decided that was it then. We soon grew tired of Blacky and decided to return home. When we arrived back home they were finally awake and we could now have our rest.

Day Four – Sunday, NYE Party at Ora’s
Waking up and it was NYE, time to party. Since Adelaide weather is not as random as Melbourne’s weather we were stuck we slowly inclining weather in the mid 30’s. Good time to spend in the pool. Slowly all the guests started to show up and the party was getting started. Dom and I decided to start up the Spa for our own personal use, but we did not know that it would take so long to set up. So for a couple of hours we were cleaning and setting up the spa for later while everyone else was enjoying themselves.

During the late hours of the night and everyone is enjoying their lamb and so on. The spa is ready to be used and everyone is enjoying their games of eight-ball, poker or just chatting. Dom and I have a nice time relaxing in the spa dreaming of hot chicks *just kidding*, when all of a sudden of the damn kids come jumping into the spa with us. After a while I decide its time to let Dom go pimp some of the girls on his own in the spa.

Late night and the time flies. No one even knew it was past midnight so we all yelled out “Happy New Year” about 5 mins late. As all the kids are sleeping and that we take out the games so the adults can play. Wii sports were fun for them but even more surprising is that they were into singstar as well. We saw some of the funniest things from these guys trying to sing but the funniest had to go to the white guy, Matt, trying to sing.

It’s around 4 when Andy and I decide to go to sleep and Dom goes to join the fellas in the spa and pool. Ah yes, Vincent I got your damn late New Years sms when I was trying to sleep.

Day Five – Monday, Chilling at Ora’s
The next day everyone woke up early and seemed to be having fun. People were in the pool, watching all access Foxtel, playing snooker… pretty much just like the day before. Not much to say but yeah we pretty much did this for the whole day just chilling and relaxing with the boys. We went home after dark to rest and change up.

Day Six – Tuesday, Fishing with Ora
Today we felt like going out shopping or something at one of the many plazas here they have in Adelaide. On the way to going to Titipee Plaza (whatever is called), Ora calls us up to see if we wanted to go fishing and since I love to fish I wanted to go. Dom and I decides to go fishing and Andy goes shopping. We drive off to Port Adelaide, and since Ora is a gangster driver we are there fairly quick. We went fishing under a road bridge with a clear sign saying “no fishing allowed” but since we are with gangsters no rules apply to us. We met some of Ora’s friends that were already there fishing and they made it seem like it was easy to catch fish so me and Dom give it a noob try and we just looked so nub in front of the guys. After a while spending some time catching seaweed we move across to a different area. And still catching seaweed we move again. We do this for a couple of hours and we finally just give up. The fish up in Adelaide are to smart for us. I guess the highlight of that day was seeing the dolphins swim by but the rest of the day was like poofy. For those of you who know that Dom’s really into his jean he got muscle on his jeans and it reeks.

Day One – Thursday, Meeting the Family, Barnacle Bills
We arrive at Bo’s house. We meet some of the family; Bo’s mum, dad, little sister and older brother. We were too hungry to sleep straight away so we went to go eat at Barnacle Bills. Afterwards we came straight back and slept.

Day Two – Friday, Exploring the City
Adelaide is not the most well built city and not the smartest built city. In contrast to Melbourne it’s not even close to being as big as Melbourne. Adelaide is spread out to look big. So we went exploring the city at night, might go hit the clubs, we explored the whole freaking city in that one night. Couldn’t hit the clubs because it was HEAPS packed, so we went to “the bay”, Adelaide’s beach hangout. After that we came back and rested up.

Day Three– Saturday, China Town, and the city
On the second day we all woke up at our usual times, 2-3pm. We got to know some more of the family as for some reason Bo’s whole family and some other random family’s show up. After Bo finished cutting all her clients hair we decided to go out to explore the city. We went to visit “China” town to only notice that there were hardly any Asians there. How weird is that? Oh well its how Adelaide is I guess.

We went into the city streets to explore more of the… I don’t really know what we were doing I guess. We had to get Andy some medication though because he was coming down with some throat infection.

We came back home to find more of Bo’s family waiting to take us out again. We met Bo’s sister, V, and her Husband, Ora. We were gonna spend the night over at their place. When we got there we were in awe. They lived in a resort… or a lesser extent of one but it was still freakin awesome. Pool, spa, snooker table, gym, Foxtel (all channels unlocked *wink wink*) and just a sweet ass house.

At Ora’s we were having a guys night in playing pool, poker and some lame ass drinking games.
